Student visa

For applicants intending to study in Switzerland or Austria.

Pupils and students who wish to attend a course for up to three months (90 days) have to submit the following documents (visa type C / Schengen visa application form):

  1. Application form duly completed and signed by the applicant (applications which are not fully completed dated and signed will not be accepted).
  2. Passport valid for at least three months after the date when the holder leaves Switzerland/Austria/Schengen area and issued within the last 10 years.
  3. Copy of the applicant’s passport (pages with photo/name and if applicable prolongation).
  4. Copies of other valid visas.
  5. 2 passport photographs (35 – 40mm in width, sharp focus and clear, close-up of head and neck, undamaged, not older than 6 months). Pictures not meeting the requirements will be refused.
  6. Confirmation/matriculation letter from the school, university, etc. in Switzerland/Austria.
  7. Confirmation of payment of school tuition and fees.
  8. Confirmation of payment of lodgings.
  9. If the school does not take out a health/accident insurance policy on behalf of the applicant, he/she must provide an accident/medical-insurance policy (original and 2 copies). Coverage for at least EUR 30’000.00, valid for the whole Schengen area.
  10. Current sutdy confirmation in Georgia / Armenia. The letter schould be addressed to the Embassy of Switzerland and should be drafted in English, German, French or Italian or translated into one of these languages.
  11. Pupils & students not yet 18 years old have to provide an authorization signed by their parents, allowing them to travel to Switzerland and study there. The parents signatures need to be legalized by a notary/lawyer and the documement must be translated into Englisch, German, French or Italian. As well as a translated birth certificate of the child (Apostille may be required in certain cases).
  12. Reservation of a round-trip ticket to your home country (original and copy or a print-out of an electronic-ticket). Open tickets are not accepted.

Visa applications have to be submitted personally by the student!

Pupils and students, who wish to attend a school or university in Austria for more than three month, have to submit their documents at the Austrian Embassy in Baku.   • 3 application forms type D (Swiss national visa) duly completed and signed by the applicant (applications which are not fully completed dated and signed will not be accepted).
  • Passport valid for at least three months after the date when the holder leaves Switzerland/Schengen area and issued within the last 10 years.
  • 2 copies of the applicant’s passport (pages with photo/name and if applicable prolongation).
  • 2 copies of other valid/invalid visas.
  • 4 passport photographs (35 – 40mm in width, sharp focus and clear, close-up of head and neck, undamaged, not older than 6 months). Pictures not meeting the requirements will be refused.
  • Confirmation/matriculation letter from school, university, etc. in Switzerland (original plus 1 copy).
  • Confirmation of payment of school tuition and fees (original plus 1 copy).
  • A statement containing exact details of the applicant’s income and assets, with official proof and/or bank statements to prove financing of the studies in Switzerland (original plus 1 copy).
  • Previous diplomas and school certificates (original plus 2 copies, originals will be returned).
  • Curriculum vitae, dated and signed (original and 1 copy).
  • Motivation letter, dated and signed – why do you want to study in the above institution? (Original and 1 copy)
  • Post study plans, dated and signed – what will you do after graduation of the studies? (Original and 1 copy)
  • A written confirmation of the applicant that he/she will leave Switzerland after completion of the chosen course of study. (In free form; original plus 1 copy).
  • Pupils & students not yet 18 years old have to provide an authorization signed by their parents, allowing them to travel to Switzerland and study there. The parents signatures need to be legalized by a notary/lawyer and the documement must be translated into Englisch, German, French or Italian. As well as a translated birth certificate of the child (Apostille may be required in certain cases).

Visa applications have to be submitted personally by the student, as a short interview will be conducted by an employee of the Embassy in order the check the language knowledge of the applicant.

The curriculum vitae, the diplomas and other school certification as well as motivation letters must be translated/written into one of the following languages: English, German, French or Italian.

The Embassy recommends that students directly check with their university/school in Switzerland if other documents and/or confirmations are required.

The applicant’s request will be forwarded for decision to the responsible immigration authority in Switzerland, therefore the Embassy will charge additional USD 10.00 for postage.

The Swiss Embassy can only issue a student visa upon receipt of the authorisation. Please note that the procedure takes approx. 6 – 12 weeks (not guaranteed).
